Final rule allows individuals to buy short-term, limited-duration health coverage that lasts up to 12 months and renew that coverage for a maximum period of 36 months
The Trump administration finalized a rule on Wednesday that allows Americans to purchase short-term health insurance plans that provide limited coverage at relatively low cost for up to three years.
The final rule overturns an Obama-era policy that limited the use of short-term plans to just three months in an effort to prevent healthier, younger consumers from leaving the Health Insurance Marketplace in favor of less comprehensive coverage at a lower cost.
